May 2024

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support the Bronchiectasis Research at the COPD Foundation in May.

Bronchiectasis is a condition where the lungs' airways become damaged making it difficult to clear mucus. Because of the damaged airways, bacteria and mucus build up causing infections. This condition led to a hard battle for Lauren's grandmother, Mahin, that resulted in her reliance on a ventilator. As there is no cure for this condition, we hope that through continued research and support, advanced therapies and treatments may be discovered.

"The COPD Foundation’s mission is to help millions of people live longer and healthier lives by advancing research, advocacy, and awareness to stop COPD, bronchiectasis, and NTM lung disease. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a term used to describe chronic lung diseases including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. COPD is characterized by breathlessness. Some people with COPD also experience tiredness and chronic cough with or without mucus."

March 2024

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support the Lauren Zeitels Memorial Pathways Fund at Massachusetts General Hospital in March.

Dr. Lauren Zeitels was a very close friend of founder Lauren that began at the University of Pennsylvania where they both attended college.  Their very close friendship was made even stronger from being in the same lineage in their sorority, Alpha Phi. Dr. Zeitels was always an inspiration to Lauren whether in her dedication to friends and family, her hilarious humor, her kind, giving, and caring nature, or in her passion for her studies. Dr. Zeitels had an extraordinarily brilliant mind achieving countless academic successes, consistently on the cutting edge of research in both science and medicine, all while exemplifying true humility. Unfortunately, in March 2017, the world tragically and profoundly lost Dr. Zeitels, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate and blessed enough to know her and the impact she had in the world of science and medicine. While in residency at Harvard, Dr. Zeitels and a co-resident established the Pathways program - bridging science and medicine in helping diagnose difficult cases.  Today, this program continues to thrive under her legacy where "medical staff can refer patients with fundamental questions regarding unknown mechanisms of disease to the Pathways Consult Service" and is now being incorporated into the Harvard Medical School curriculum.

"The Pathways program was founded by Dr. Lauren Zeitels and Dr. Victor Fedorov. As aspiring physician-scientists, Dr. Zeitels and Dr. Fedorov understood that the field of medicine shares a historic bond with scientific discovery. In the past, advancing the fundamentals of biology through the careful investigation of patients seen in clinic was common practice for the physician. During their first year of residency, Lauren and Victor saw patient after patient whose cases raised important and unanswered questions about the mechanisms driving disease. At the same time, Lauren and Victor understood the incredible leaps being made in bench science, as tools like DNA and RNA sequencing became ubiquitous in academic settings. Far ahead of their time, they recognized how bringing together individual patient questions with these tools could enhance medical training, advance science and help patients and families seeking explanations. In 2016, they approached Department of Medicine leadership with an idea—to set aside dedicated time during residency for house staff to connect with scientists and delve into the fascinating biological questions that arise at the bedside. With the full support of department leadership, the Pathways Consult Service was born."

December 2022

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support Two by Twelve in December.

"Two by Twelve was started by a two-time Cancer survivor looking to give back to the community. At Two By Twelve, our mission is to use music and the arts to improve, empower and enrich the lives of children and families facing serious illness. Our programming falls into three main categories: Ronald McDonald House of New York Workshops, Project Survive and Workshops for Cancer Patients + Survivors.

Ronald McDonald House of New York Workshops:

Two By Twelve has been hosting arts and music based programs and workshops for the Ronald McDonald House of New York since 2014. We have planned and facilitated workshops in areas such as yoga, meditation, magic and comedy to arts and crafts and live music. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Two By Twelve has been hosting Welcome Events for new families to the House as well as monthly online workshops for current families. Since 2021, Two By Twelve has been sponsoring NYE Dinner for all of the children and families at the House.

Project Survive:

Two By Twelve is pleased to present Project Survive: The (Un)lucky Ones, a virtual exhibition that tells the authentic and complex story of Cancer through the collected words, images, and artifacts of Cancer survivors. Project Survive: The (Un)lucky Ones aims to provide rich depictions of the Cancer experience through the intimate perspective of those directly impacted by using photography, in-depth interviews, and artifact collection. Survivors reflect on their experiences and address the question: What does it mean to be a Survivor?

Project Survive: The (Un)lucky Ones seeks to increase the visibility of both the Cancer experience and life afterwards. Over many years, Two By Twelve has interviewed and photographed Cancer Survivors. Personal artifacts provided by survivors, such as patient charts, diary/journal entries, poetry and art, will live alongside representations of Cancer in Media such as Audre Lorde’s Cancer Journals and Margaret Edson’s Wit in this moving and powerful exhibition. By placing artifacts in tandem with the shared stories and portraits, a digital exhibition is created that seeks to dispel the notion that there is one universal Cancer experience. It strives to illuminate the many unique, powerful, and complex stories of survivors. Project Survive: The (Un)lucky Ones provides an inclusive and empowering platform for Cancer Survivors to tell their honest narratives, share artifacts, and engage in reflection on the Cancer experience regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, location, ability level, diagnosis, or course of treatment.

Art Workshops for Cancer Patients + Survivors:

Two By Twelve is committed to providing engaging and free-of-cost arts programming for people impacted by cancer. To date, we have collaborate with the following non-organizations, hospitals and clinics to provide free-of-cost arts and music based workshops and programming: Red Door Community, Cancer Center For Kids at NYU Langone, Ronald McDonald House of New York, Hassenfeld Children's Hospital at NYU Langone, Nancy Marx Wellness Center at the Roslyn JCC, Kids Need MORE."

November 2022

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support The Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation ("OIUF") in November.

"The Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation mission is to find cures for ocular inflammatory diseases, to correct the worldwide deficit of properly trained ocular immunologists, and to provide education and emotional support for those patients afflicted with ocular inflammatory disease."

Lauren Jacobs-Lazer, a dear friend of founder, Lauren, has been an inspiration through her leadership in broadening education about eye diseases, especially about her own chronic idiopathic uveitis. In 2007, Lauren Jacobs-Lazer established the annual Walk for Vision NY/NJ. As Lauren shares, "Uveitis can be an invisible and challenging condition. It can be very hard to manage and people are often unaware that we have this eye disease.  The Walk for Vision provides that understanding and support.  I have made many new friends through this event and each year I make more! I believe it is imperative to continue to host the Walk for Vision so that we can educate people about this disease, raise funds so more physicians can be well versed in the condition, and continue to provide a place for networking, support, and education."

October 2022

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support human rights, especially women's rights, through The National Council of Jewish Women ("NCJW") in October.

"The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms."

As many of you are already aware, there have been protests happening in Iran following the death of 22 year old Mahsa Amini last month while under the custody of Iran's morality police.  The protests are fighting for women's rights that have been oppressed since the Iranian Revolution in 1979.  Prior to 1979, Iran was an extremely westernized and progressive country with women leading fashion, education, professions, and more.  While internet access has become extremely limited in Iran, we know that countless innocent lives have been taken during these protests including university students and most recently 16 year old Sarina Esmailzadeh. We stand with the brave women of Iran who are risking their lives to create needed change.

"NCJW is committed across the board to working in deep partnership and collaboration with other organizations that include local establishments, public schools, local government agencies, human service providers, faith-based institutions, and other non-profits, as well as elected officials holding positions in a multitude of offices.

[Their] work has shifted over the last century in response to the most pressing challenges facing not only Jewish women but all vulnerable women, children, and families. Some of this work includes aiding immigrants, providing resources for refugees, pioneering juvenile justice reform, advocating for family leave and child care, protecting reproductive health, rights, and justice, and passing critical civil rights legislation. [Their] work now focuses primarily on safeguarding and expanding access to abortion and contraception, protecting and promoting the vote, and pushing for fair, independent, and qualified judges on federal courts."

For more information on NCJW, please visit: https://www.ncjw.org/. For more information on the situation in Iran, please follow news outlets where covered and help spread awareness.

As always, a donation, as a percentage of sales, will be made to NCJW in October. An additional contribution will be made for flavor of the month orders.

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support DOROT in September.

"DOROT is a nonprofit organization addressing the challenges of an aging population. We serve our clients with a diverse range of programs and services. We deliver those programs and services through intergenerational connections with volunteers of all ages.

DOROT alleviates social isolation among older adults and provides services to help them live independently as valued members of the community. We serve the Jewish and wider community, bringing the generations together in a mutually beneficial partnership of elders, volunteers and professionals. Our work provides an effective model for others.

DOROT is the Hebrew word for “generations." In 1976, it inspired our founders to engage with their older neighbors.

The founders of DOROT, then recent graduates of Columbia University’s social work program, were pioneers in their approach to serving their older neighbors with the ultimate goal of alleviating social isolation.

Recognizing the plight of elders hidden in their apartments on New York City’s Upper West Side, they began with regular visits and food deliveries. These young adults forged a loving bond between the generations, fulfilling the name they chose for our organization.

Since its founding, DOROT has achieved a reputation of excellence and innovation in the fields of aging services and volunteerism. Though we retain our Jewish roots, our reach has expanded to serve and welcome people of all faiths and cultures. Our programs – currently available in the city of New York and Westchester County – engage 10,000 seniors and volunteers annually. Volunteers of all ages offer critical resources to vulnerable older adults, in services specific to the person’s needs and interests.

Today, as we respond to the evolving issues of the growing population of older adults, DOROT remains committed to providing seniors with the opportunity to remain engaged and connected through exemplary programs and services."

There are well over 100,000 Ukrainian refugees currently in Moldova staying at government centers (~5,000) at makeshift centers registered with the government (~20,000) and in Moldovan’s homes (~75,000). The Moldovan government has heroically responded with its limited resources and without any past experience dealing with a humanitarian crisis of this size. The Moldovan people have opened their homes to host refugee families and people have donated food, clothing, blankets diapers, baby food and much more to help people who left their home on moment’s notice. Local NGOs have thrown all of their weight and staffing to understanding the needs of their communities and responding with support. Some church groups have organized refugee centers, funneled in donations and set up hot food kitchens at border crossings." Stella's House will continue to aid the host families.

March 2022

Lauren has thought of Dr. Zeitels even more often during these challenging pandemic times as she knows that Dr. Zeitels would have undoubtedly been on the leading teams researching with fervor in understanding and discovering ways to defeat this virus.

December 2021

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support Emily's Entourage in December.

"Emily's Entourage (EE) is an innovative 501(c)3 foundation that funds research for new treatments and a cure for nonsense mutations of Cystic Fibrosis, a fatal genetic lung disease.

Since 2011, EE has awarded millions of dollars in research grants, launched a CF gene therapy company that has been acquired by a large pharmaceutical company, and led worldwide efforts to drive high-impact research and drug development. The foundation’s work is particularly critical now as revolutionary breakthroughs are available for roughly 90% of the CF population, but those with nonsense mutations fall in the outlying 10% that unfortunately do not benefit from these major advances. The work of EE is laser-focused on changing that—and doing it fast, so nobody is left behind.

Importantly, the work that EE is spearheading has the potential to have wide-reaching effects, far beyond the CF community. While rare among the CF community, “nonsense mutations” are the cause of roughly 12% of all genetic diseases, affecting roughly 30 million people worldwide."

The organization was founded by Emily Kramer-Golinkoff, a woman with advanced stage Cystic Fibrosis, and her devoted friends and family.  Emily and Noosh Kneads founder, Lauren, attended Penn together.  Emily's strength, perseverance, and dedication to everything she undertakes, especially in building awareness and raising funds to advance research for Cystic Fibrosis, all while undergoing treatments, is an inspiration to everyone.

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support The Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation ("OIUF") in October.

August and September 2021

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support Donors Choose in August.

With the start of the school year around the corner, Noosh Kneads and Noosh Charitable Kneads are excited to support an organization that is committed to helping classrooms have all of the supplies they need to help the support the best education for children.

"In 2000, Charles Best, a teacher at a Bronx public high school, wanted his students to read Little House on the Prairie. As he was making photocopies of the one book he could procure, Charles thought about all the money he and his colleagues were spending on books, art supplies, and other materials. And he figured there were people out there who'd want to help — if they could see where their money was going. Charles sketched out a website where teachers could post classroom project requests, and donors could choose the ones they wanted to support. His colleagues posted the first 11 requests. Then it spread. Today, we're open to every public school in America."

July 2021

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support the Anti-Defamation League in July.

Noosh Kneads and Noosh Chartiable Kneads stand against all forms of hate. With the unfortunate recent rise in anti-semitic attacks, we are proud to support the ADL's mission "to stop the defamation of the Jewish people, and to secure justice and fair treatment to all.... "

"When Chicago attorney Sigmund Livingston founded ADL in 1913, he envisioned an America where those who seemed different were not targets of discrimination and threats, but were equals, worthy of shared opportunity and a place in the American dream. This vision remains relevant today, its call to action as urgent. While we have accomplished a great deal, much work is left to be done. We want an ever-more just society. We continually develop new programs, policies and skills to expose and combat whatever holds us back. We are focused on what brings us closer to this ideal. Ours is a shared journey."

ADL's values are based on equality, collaboration, and integrity.  "Our Jewish values inform our work and the change we seek in the world. These values also guide the strategy and tactics of all of our programs and activities globally, nationally and locally. We have the courage to speak out against antisemitism and bigotry, discrimination and injustice—even when we stand alone. We stand up for the Jewish State of Israel—the only democratically-elected government in the Middle East. We value respect in our work and workplace, acknowledging the humanity in others—even as we put forth different views. We embrace the power of collaboration, recognizing that working together yields gains that could not always be achieved on our own.We believe in the power of inclusion and uniting people from diverse groups—because we are stronger together than when we are apart. We always observe the highest standards of integrity. We are viewed as having unquestioned credibility because our actions draw from years of experience and are grounded in research and rigorous thinking. We set high performance expectations and hold ourselves accountable for the quality of our work and the results we achieve as individuals, as a team and as one organization."

May 2021

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support the Airways Biology Initiative of the Laboratory of Rare Lung Diseases at the Perelman School of Medicine in May.

This fund was selected in honor of founder Lauren's grandmother, Mahin, who has been a constant source of inspiration and role model for Lauren and who has bronchiectasis. Bronchiectasis is a condition where the lungs' airways become damaged making it difficult to clear mucus. Because of the damaged airways, bacteria and mucus build up causing infections. This condition led to a hard battle for Lauren's grandmother against the flu and pneumonia that resulted in her reliance on a ventilator. As there is no cure for this condition, we hope that through continued research and support, advanced therapies and treatments may be discovered.

"The Airways Biology Initiative (ABI), which was founded in 2005, conducts basic research in immunology, physiology and molecular biology related to understanding the mechanisms that regulate airway function and leukocyte interactions in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and adult bronchiectasis. The ABI also performs unique clinical studies utilizing state-of-the-art pulmonary function testing, airway imaging (computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, CT scans, and confocal bronchoscopy) and invasive techniques (bronchoscopy) to assess airway inflammation and bronchoconstriction. Additionally, the ABI provides one of the only Respiratory Phase II Clinical Research Unit in the United States for drug evaluation.

The ABI is renowned for establishing state-of-the-art clinical and research programs that translate discoveries into new therapeutics for patients with airways disease that also includes orphan diseases such as lymphangioleiomyomatosis, Castleman disease, and Birt-Hogg-Dube syndrome. Further, the ABI provides unique opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral research and clinical education and training.

The program is interdisciplinary by nature and multicentric using fundamental and clinical science expertise from the Departments of Medicine, Pediatrics, Radiology, Surgery, Pharmacology and Emergency Medicine in the Schools of Medicine and Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine as well as at the Wistar Institute. The ABI is staffed by eight faculty, 36 support members and state-of-the-art facilities. The Center of Excellence in Environmental Toxicology Human Exposure Laboratory is also directed by the ABI at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center."

April 2021

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support Project Morry in April.

Project Morry was founded in 1995, inspired by the vision of camping world hero, Morry Stein. Morry recognized the significant positive long-term impact camping had on the lives of the young people who attended his camp, Echo Lake, and believed this experience should be shared with children from all socioeconomic groups.

His goal was to give all American children, regardless of economic status, the invaluable gift of summer camp and a consistent year-round program. Morry was working on achieving this goal when his life was tragically taken in 1994.

Determined to make Morry’s dream a reality, his friends, colleagues, family and campers created Morry’s Camp the following year. Every year since, the program has grown in scope and impact into the Project Morry you see today. From its beginnings as a summer camp, Project Morry is now a robust nine-year program that supports the academic and life success of hundreds of young people year-round.

The incredible partnerships with our community, donors and young people has allowed our programs to flourish and enabled new programs to take shape as we carry out our mission together.

Project Morry is Morry’s dream come true.

Noosh Charitable Kneads is proud to support NewYork-Presbyterian/ Weill Cornell Medical Center in December. NewYork-Presbyterian is dedicated to providing the highest-quality, most compassionate care to all of their patients in New York, nationally, and around the globe.

Ever since she and her siblings were children, founder, Lauren's, amazing grandmother ingrained in her and her entire family, "If you have your health, you have your wealth." In 2017, Lauren's grandmother broke her hip. She and her family turned to NewYorkPresbyterian/Weill Cornell for their beloved grandmother’s care and were thrilled when she made a full recovery. So, in early 2020, they knew exactly where to go when she fell ill with a life-threatening case of the flu. Throughout January and February, her team of doctors, nurses, and aides not only saved her life, but did so while facing the frightening and unexpected developments of the COVID-19 pandemic. Those same teams who cared for her grandmother were, and still remain, on the front lines of the incomprehensible pandemic that New York and the world continue to endure.

Please join Lauren and her family this month in supporting the entire team at NYP, especially those on the front-lines. For any orders placed on Giving Tuesday, December 1st, an additional percentage will be donated. NYP invites you to join them as they raise awareness for and celebrate all who work to support NewYork-Presbyterian.

You can also support NewYork-Presbyterian by leaving a few words of encouragement for their front-line staff who have worked tirelessly through these unprecedented times. Support their dedicated and resilient teams and share it on social media.
